Is the speed of your internet slow? A Wi-Fi 7 router could be useful, but it costs a lot

My internet connection seems fast for the first time ever.

This is a big deal for my family because we use the internet a lot. No longer do work conference calls cut out. You can skip the annoying "wait a minute" wheel and go straight to streaming clips and videos on sites like Amazon Prime, Netflix, CBS Sports, and YouTube. The apps for the MyQ garage door opener and the Schlage door lock both work faster.

We didn't have a bad link, as it turned out. It was to control the crowd.

There is now a new sheriff in town, and our ties are being cleaned up. I got one of Ero's brand-new Max 7 router packs at the end of last month. Max 7 is one of the first whole-home networks to handle Wi-Fi 7. This means that the router has a lot of new features that can keep connections strong, even on networks that are already busy, like mine. For good measure, it also controls traffic on the newly assigned 6GHz spectrum, which lets younger computers and smartphones join at incredibly fast speeds without any problems.

Is Wi-Fi 7 too much?

But, to be honest, things weren't that bad before. For God's sake, we have gigabit internet. That's more than enough speed for my wife and me to work together on separate videoconferences, watch different films, and talk on two different social media sites at the same time.

Our links didn't always work right, though, even when we wanted them to. The screen in the meeting would freeze at some point. Streaming systems would store data.

Our home network is being used by more than 50 devices at the same time. Eight cranky old smart bulbs are causing traffic problems faster than a dance on the motorway. So, for example, if an Amazon delivery turns on a webcam while a pair of lightbulbs are changing their software, my video call would stutter.

It does sound like fifty gadgets are a lot, and it is. Recent studies, on the other hand, say that the average US home has more than 20 connected devices. That's still more than enough to get in the way of your most important internet tasks.

 

Is Wi-Fi 7 already out there?

How does Wi-Fi 7 work?

Max 7 now has some great new Wi-Fi 7 tools in its hands. When Wi-Fi first came out, the router gave each device a set amount of spectrum, whether it was getting a big file or just turning on a light. More ways to mix and match frequency slices are added in Wi-Fi 7, so devices only get what they need.

 

That makes things work much better, so more devices can connect to your network at the same time. Plus, Wi-Fi 7 routers like the Max 7 will be able to make things even better as you add new devices that can use more of the newest features.

 

Does 6GHz work with Wi-Fi 7?

One of the coolest things about the Max 7 starts with a'6:' that is, 6GHz. Before, wireless home networks only had one or two PCs. Now, they have dozens of smartphones, laptops, streaming consoles, voice helpers, and other smart home devices. The FCC made a big chunk of the 6GHz airwaves available for Wi-Fi. It's more than twice as much as what's available in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands together.

 

Because it is so clean, the new 6GHz band in Wi-Fi 7 is the most impressive of all the new features. You feel like the network is just for you. Of course, you do in some ways.

 

Can iPhones connect to Wi-Fi 7?

Some products that use Wi-Fi 7, like the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, can connect to the 6GHz band. This year, some high-end computers and smartphones came out with Wi-Fi 6E, which is an update to Wi-Fi 6 that lets you talk on 6GHz. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are two examples, as are the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Z Fold5, and Z Flip5 from Samsung. They can't use all of the new control tools in Wi-Fi 7. They can, however, surf the rare 6 GHz band.

 

I used a Lenovo Yoga Book 9i laptop with two screens and Wi-Fi 6E and a Pixel 8 Pro phone with Wi-Fi 7 for my review. When I connected with each other, I felt like the wind was in my hair. The Chase Bank app had never shown up so quickly before. I think that was the first time I ever smiled while paying my bills.

 

How much does Wi-Fi 7 cost?

We haven't talked about the price yet. Also, I want to warn you that it can be scary. Mesh systems are expensive, to begin with, but they make networks run much faster by managing data across multiple router points. Also, Wi-Fi 7 is the newest and best version, and it works much faster and more efficiently. When you put them together, well, are you ready?
