What is Apple Pay? How to use Apple Pay?

Apple Inc. created Apple Pay, a mobile payment and digital wallet service that lets customers use their iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs to make purchases both in-person and online. Users can add their credit or debit card information to the Wallet app on their device and use it to make purchases at participating online and in-app merchants as well as through contactless readers and tap-to-pay terminals. Apple Cash is a digital payment card service that allows Apple Pay customers to send and receive money with friends and family.

Apple Pay adds an additional layer of security above conventional credit and debit card payments, which are prone to hacking and data breaches, by using a unique device account number and transaction code rather than storing customers' card numbers on their devices. To further increase the security of the transaction, Apple Pay transactions also require biometric authentication like Face ID or Touch ID, as well as a passcode.

Users must set up their payment methods in the Wallet app on an Apple device that is compatible with Apple Pay in order to utilize it. Then, they can use the service to pay at a participating merchant by holding their device close to a contactless scanner or by choosing the Apple Pay option to finish an online or in-app transaction.

How to Use Apple Pay

Here is a step-by-step tutorial for using Apple Pay:

Step 1: Verify that your device is Apple Pay-ready. Apple Watch, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPhone 6 and later all support Apple Pay. Apple Pay is also supported on Mac models equipped with a Touch ID sensor.

Step 2: In the Wallet app on your device, add your credit or debit card. Open the Wallet app, and tap the "+" in the top-right corner to accomplish this. Use the camera to scan your card or manually enter the information to add your card by following the on-screen directions.

Step 3: Check your card's validity by following the directions given by the company that issued it.

Step 4: To validate an Apple Pay transaction in-store, simply hold your device close to the contactless reader and press your finger on Touch ID or Face ID. Double-click the side button on an Apple Watch and hold the display against the reader.

Step 5: Select "Apple Pay" at the checkout to utilize Apple Pay for online or in-app purchases. Review your payment information before verifying the transaction using Touch ID, Face ID, or your device passcode.
